The course aims to train students in problematizing the concept of dwelling / housing through an in-depth knowledge of housing design in a changing world where social, cultural and sustainability aspects are important. Furthermore, the course aims to develop and link knowledge from previous courses through an in-depth study of the home's dimensions, use, qualitative properties and experiential values. The impact of housing on the opportunity for sustainable development is an obvious starting point. The teaching stimulates a critical attitude to today's housing construction and an ambition to experiment with new house types and ways of dwelling.

The course trains the students' ability to design high-quality housing with the awareness that the composition and way of life of households is constantly changing and can appear in many ways. Through a holistic method, students develop their ability to integrate sustainability aspects in the design of housing in a consciously treated context and with a focus on experiential values. The qualities of dwelling are examined from the small scale with dimensions, use, materials and details to the large one with the relationship to the surrounding community, buildings and landscape.
The project assignment of the course can apply to both housing in the dense city or a rural situation. Artistic aspects must be set against accepted or scientifically substantiated knowledge. The course is divided into small experimental projects in the beginning and a larger synthesis in the second part. Through early choice of a site, the contextual reading enters the project. The use of reference projects that are introduced in the linked theory course provides an introduction to method and inspiration. The task can be of the low-density type or more complex contexts. Progression is achieved by dividing the assignment into stages with an intermediate review and tutorials.
Grading scale: UG - (U, G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: Approved project and exercise assignments as well as 80% active attendance at seminars, study visits and lectures. Mandatory attendance at reviews. The qualities of the project proposal and presentation are evaluated and discussed by an assessment group consisting of the examiner responsible for the course, teachers and any external critics, after which the examiner decides whether the project is considered to meet the requirements for the grade passed. If the grade fails, the student is entitled to a re-examination after completion or reworking of the project. The examiner informs the student what is required to obtain the grade passed.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
