Aim

The aim is to provide the student with knowledge of the spatial characteristics of architecture through design in complex contexts and to develop their ability to design architecture in physically specific and socially complex situations. The course also aims to train the student's ability to document and communicate their own architectural project with a critical reflective and evaluative approach.

Special focus is given to the urban dimension and how its material and immaterial meanings both affect and are affected by the built environment.

Contents

The course is project-oriented and the main task is to create an architectural proposal that relates to a given urban or landscape context.

The student's ability to document and communicate their own architectural project is trained through workshops, seminars and supervision. The project is compiled in a report that is discussed at the time of the examination.

The project assignment invites a critical examination of architecture and stimulates the development of a personal and experimental way of working, where innovative proposals can be tested.

Great importance is placed on investigating how buildings and places can take advantage of, further develop and renew physical, cultural and social meanings in the built environment.

Supervision takes place continuously and during special submissions, presentations and public briefings, the student is trained to communicate architecture in a structured and insightful way in drawings, words and images. The design task is supported by lectures, exercises, literature studies and seminars.

Tools used, for instance to enhance text quality, generate ideas, or process data, must be documented in the work. It should be clearly indicated how these tools have contributed to the final outcome. Generative AI may not be cited as a source.
