Aim

The subject aims at imparting the students with knowledge and understanding of the players, regulations and processes that must be observe with planning and administration of a building or construction process.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• Describe the different stages in building processes from the construction perspective.
• Identify and define the key players in different stages of the construction process.
• Understand projects and project management.
• Describe the rules and regulations that affect the different stages of construction
• Explain the importance of quality and environment in the construction process.

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• Apply basic method for planning, financial analysis and organising a construction project.
• Design and evaluate a consultancy contract.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• Formulate and evaluate the relevant aspects of construction process.
• Understand the interaction betweeen the architect and other actors.
• Evaluate how different forms of project delivery affect the relationship between different actors.

Contents

In general the subject focuses on the construction process as a whole. Specific focus of will be on project planning techniques, scheduling, cost control, forms of contract, financing and quality management.

Examination details

Grading scale: UG - (U, G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: Approved written examination, written assignments and compulsory presence for lectures and seminars. The course includes a joint workshop which is planned and implemented together with the program boards for A, L and V. Students in courses VBEA05, VFTF10 and VBEF01 will analyze a project and for approved course active participation in the workshop is required.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
