Aim
- To gain understanding of multiple environmental factors that
affect our health and well-being in indoor environments
- To understand continuous interactions between occupants,
building (as a system) and environmental factors
- To understand the importance of holistic approach towards
indoor environmental problems.
- To provide knowledge about what makes indoor environments
healthy
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
- To be able to identify environmental factors that affect human
health and perception in indoor environments
- To understand the effects of environmental factors on human
health and well-being
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to identify risks and problems in the indoor
environment
- be able to assess and interpret the problems
Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to quantify and evaluate the severity of the problem on
the basis of measurements
- be able to assess relevance, reliability and accuracy of
method
Contents
- Health effects of indoor environmental factors
- Physical factors: aerosols,air quality, thermal factors, noise
and lighting
- Interaction between different factors
- Interaction between building requirements, energy saving and
indoor environmental quality
Examination details
Grading scale: UG - (U,G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: For a passing grade, approved assignments throughout the duration the course, approved project work and a passed exam are required.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
