The course aims to provide basic knowledge of concepts and methods in geodetic surveying, photogrammetry, and saltellite positioning. Furthermore, it aims to convey understanding both for the subject-specific areas and for common points in an example of a construction project, called Vägen Vägen, in collaboration with the courses in Road Construction and Soil Mechanics.

Knowledge and understanding

For a passing grade the student must

be able to:

- explain theory of geodetic reference systems and map projections
- describe horizontal and height reference systems
- explain surveying methods used for point positioning and mapping
- describe basic principles in photogrammetry and GPS

Competences and skills

For a passing grade the student must

be able to:

- apply knowledge in surveying for construction and infrastructure projects
- apply standard surveying methods for solving problems in plane and height dimensions
- perform geodetic adjustment computations using the Least-Squares method
- perform coordinate transformations between different geodetic systems

Judgement and approach

For a passing grade the student must

be able to:

- understand the significance of and be able to asses geodetic analyses, projecting and planing

Basic classical surveying calculations in plane och high. Adjustment of surveying with equalization calculation according to least square method, fault propagation and introduction to building measurements fault and tolerance theory. Photogrammetry concepts, definitions and applications. Concepts med methods in satellite positioning (GPS) and applications.

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)

Assessment: Written final examination, project work (Vägen Vägen), and complusory field work.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.

Required prior knowledge: FMAB20 Linear Algebra OR FMA420 Linear Algebra.
