General chemistry

Fundamental chemical processes related to applications in nano science and technology are described and explained.

The course comprises

The student works actively with problem solving during the course in order to reach the learning outcomes described above. Skills and abilities in the professional use of scientific and chemical therminology are promoted by the use of standard English literature.

Organic chemistry

The structure and reactivity of organic compounds with emphasis on an understanding of properties such as solubility, acid-base properties and reactivity. Some fundamental reaction mechanisms inluding those of relevance for biochemical processes and polymer synthesis. The most common experimental techniques evaluation of risk factors at laboratory work.

Examination details

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: Written exams, laboratory experiments, and written reports. The final grades are given equally based on exam results of both parts.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
