Aim
- to give an introduction to biotechnology and
bioprocessing.
- to give information about biotechnological, food and
pharmaceutical industry as well as current research.
- to introduce project work and group based learning.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
- have a basic understanding of biotechnological production
methods
- be able to describe the role of enzymes and microorganisms in a
biotechnological process
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to draw simple flow schemes for biotechnological
processes
- be able to use computers, write reports, do oral presentations
and to work in a project group
- be able to estimate and discuss environmental aspects of a
biotechnological process
Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to retrieve inforamtion from text books and scientific
articles related to a biotechnological process
- be able to formulate and discuss questions concerning
sustainable development in relation to production of
biotechnological products such as food and pharmaceutical as well
as other products
Contents
- project: raw materials, reactors, reactions, products, energy,
environment and sustainable biotechnological production.

Grading scale: UG
Assessment: Written reports, oral presentation, compulsory fire safety training.
