Aim

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge for advanced studies, work and research especially within chemical-biological-biochemical areas.

Contents

Immunological methods; Qualitative and quantitative methods; immunoprecipitation in gel, agglutination, immunoblotting, radio-/enzymoimmunoassay and immunohistology. Immunization, isolation and characterisation of antibodies. Immune cell activation and detection, Hypersensitivity reactions and detection of food antigenes.

Immunochemistry; Immunoglobulin structure and function, Immunogenetics, Transplantation antigenes (MHC proteins). Antigen-antibody interactions. The complement system. Cytokines.

Cellular immunology; Lymphoid cells and tissues. Differentiation, activation, interaction and effects of immune cells. Immunoregulation.

Immunobiology; Innate and aquired immunity to infection, inflammation, hypersensitivity reactions and immune diseases. Ontogeny and phylogeny of the immunity.

Examination details

Grading scale: UV
Assessment: Teaching consists of lectures, practicals and seminars. Practicals and seminars, and the course elements associated with these are compulsory. Examination takes the form of written tests at the end of the course. Students who fail the ordinary tests will have an opportunity to take another test in close proximity to the ordinary test. To be awarded a Pass on the whole course the students shall have passed the tests, have acceptable practical reports and to have participated in all compulsory course elements. The final grade for the course is determined by the aggregated results of the different parts of the examination.
