Aim

The course gives the student an understanding of an airplanes intertwined systems and allows the student to in a correct manner interperate and understand the airplanes limitations and situation then based on these make decisions that maintaines a high level of flightsafety.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

Part 1 - Systems, electrics and power plants

• Show generel knowledge about an airplanes build.
• Show specific knowledge about an airplanes electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, de-icing and fuel systems.
• Show a basic understanding of an airplanes oxygen and fire protection systems.
• Show a deeper knowledge of an airplanes electrical generators and engines with their corresponding regulatory circuits.
• Show basic knowledge concerning radio - transmitters, receivers, frequency bandwiths, propagation, etc.

Part 2 - Instrumentation

• Show detailed knowledge about an airplanes different warning systems (TCAS,ACAS,GPWS,EGPWS).
• Show detailed knowledge about the autopilots interaction with other systems (autothrottle, FMS).

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

Part 1 - Systems, electrics and power plants

• Be able to perform drag-force calculations for both propeller and jet aircraft.
• Show capability to apply their knowledge even under unnormal situations.
• Ability to in a rutine and effective way find information in the airplanes "Pilot Operating Manual"

Part 2 - Instrumentation

• Show ability to interpret and understand the airplanes various instruments (man-machine interface)
• Before and during flight, have a workable understanding and capability to monitor the systems mentioned in the first point of this part.
• Show a basic understanding for which instrument related factors that effect the planning of a flight.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

Part 1 - Systems, electrics and power plants

• Show skill in, before and during flight, monotoring and understanding the systems mentioned in previous learning objectives.

Part 2 - Instrumentation

• Show ability to interpret and evaluate all available data for coming flights and during flight.
• Show ability to make decisions based on a flights given circumstances with the aim of upholding a high level of flight safety.

Contents

The course discusses airplanes technical construction and systems. The course is divided into two parts:

1. Systems, electrics and power plants
2. Instrumentation

Examination details

Grading scale: UG - (U,G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: Participation in compulsory lectures and exercises. Examinations for each course part are conducted in the form of either internet based or classroom bound Progress Tests. The course ends with a Final Test, at the place of education, for each separate course part. To achieve a passing grade (Godkänd, G) a pass must be achieved in all Progress Tests and a score of at least 75% must be achieved on all Final Tests.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
