Material and process selection is a multidisciplinary field, requiring expertise in solid mechanics, material science, manufacturing methods, and sustainability theory to achieve optimal outcomes. This course is designed to teach a systematic approach to selecting materials and manufacturing methods.
The course utilizes GRANTA software, which includes extensive databases with crucial parameters and properties necessary for making optimized material and method choices. Factors influencing material selection for a product may include sustainability, mechanical loads, chemical environment, temperature, and more. Additionally, the choice of material and product design directly impacts the possible manufacturing methods that can be employed.
In summary, the course content includes:
The course is structured around a series of lectures that cover the fundamentals of material and method selection. These are complemented by independent assignments and project work. To enhance understanding, seminar exercises are included, where typical examples are explored.
Grading scale: TH - (U, 3, 4, 5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment:
Compulsory assignments, compulsory project work, and written exam.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
