Aim

The aim of the course is to give the students skills and approaches needed for designing and conducting research work in the field of real estate science. The course will provide the students knowledge of applicable quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as an understanding of how and when the methods should be used.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the central positions and concepts in scientific research.
• demonstrate knowledge of relevant research methods in the field of real estate science.
• demonstrate an understanding of the scientific, societal and ethical aspects of reserach work.

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• identify problems and formulate objectives for research in real estate science.
• have basic skills in regression analysis.
• have basic interviewing skills.
• present their work in a scientific way.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• demonstrate ability to critically examine the choice and application of methods in previous studies in real estate science.
• demonstrate ability to choose and motivate a relevant research question and appropriate research design.

Contents

• Lectures on central positions and concepts in scientific research and on various scientific methods.
• Exercise sessions where different methods are applied or discussed.
• Ideation workshop for research topics.
• Writing a research plan for a degree project in real estate science.
• Seminar where the research plans are presented and discussed.

Examination details

Grading scale: UG - (U, G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: Compulsory exercises, compulsory participation in seminars and submission of a written research plan.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
