Aim

Provide basic knowledge regarding the anatomy and physiology of the human body; emphasizing the gastrointestinal tract and regulation of metabolism.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• have acquired knowledge to have the capacity to describe basic human anatomy and physiology related to the most important organs and organ systems.
• understand and describe the human metabolism and its regulation.

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• orally and in writing has the ability to describe basic physiological mechanisms to the  other course participants.
• analyse  and solve  basic nutritional related questions.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

on a basic level have the skill to search for and to evaluate information related to human physiology from scientific journals, web-based sources, and public media.

Contents

On the basis of knowledge in biochemistry and cell biology, the main contents are anatomy and physiology of the human gastrointestinal tract and metabolic regulation. In addition the course includes basic anatomy and physiology related to endocrinology, neurophysiology, reproduction, respiration, circulation, muscle function and kidney function. The course contains lectures, exercises, laboratory work, and workshops with an oral presentation and written summary. During the course there are possibilities to perform two small tests (duggas).

Examination details

Grading scale: TH
Assessment: To pass the course laboratory work, exercises and workshops should be completed. The grades are based on the results of a written examination.

Admission requirements:

• Biochemistry KBK011, Microbiology KMB060 or KBKA05 Technical biology
