The aim is to deepen the knowledge about the fundamental issues, processes and methods relating to urban planning. Another aim is to develop the students' urban design skills and their understanding of the influence of the urban environment on people's well-being. Moreover the course aims to mediate knowledge of the Swedish Plan and Building Law and how it relates to planning and building as well as the content and importance detailed plans.

The course provides the students with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and methods for the analysis of urban space as well as training their ability to reflection regarding urban environments and structures. The students are also given basic knowledge about the aims, levels and application of the Swedish planning legislation. The tuition is carried out in the form of lectures, study visits, design assignments and oral presentations. The following elements are included:
Grading scale: TH - (U, 3, 4, 5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment:
Accepted exercises, active participation in study visits and group discussions and at least 80% attendance at lectures.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
