The course provides basic knowledge of strategies, terminology and methods utilized in product development. The course should also provide basic understanding in the form of procedures, methods and techniques utilized in systematic development work. The course thus provides the student with tools to facilitate communication and collaboration with different categories of members in a product development team, such as mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, marketing specialists, manufacturing experts, etc.

The course objective is set on product development, with focus on the conceptual development phase. After introducing the theory on product development, a product development project is carried out. Focus in this project is set on the conceptual development phase. The project work is presented in a common report and presented orally by all the group members
Grading scale: TH - (U, 3, 4, 5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: The course includes a compulsory industrial project, which is carried out in groups of 4-6 students. The project work is graded with the TH scale (Fail, 3, 4 or 5). The project grade corresponds to the final grade of the course.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.

Credits: 4.0. Grading scale: TH - (U, 3, 4, 5).
Assessment: The course includes a compulsory industrial project, which is carried out in groups of normally 4 to 6 students. The assessment is based on a written report and oral presentation. In case of non-attendance at the oral presentation, a written supplementary assignement will be required. Attendance at the project consultations is mandatory. At most two consultations can be replaced by a written or oral supplementary assignement will be otherwise be required (if there are special reasons, the teacher in charge can exempt the student from this obligation).
All group members receive normally the project grade achieved for the respective project work. Completion is only possible for the students who have not passed the project. Upon successful completion the students will get the minimal grade for the course.
The module includes: In the project, the concept development methodology taught in the course should be applied to develop a complete concept from a product idea.
