The architecture of historical buildings is decided by ideas, aesthetics, material and construction. In this course focus is on the connection between the architectural concept and the construction. The mutual influence between aesthetics and construction in different epochs is studied.
The course gives an overview of European architecture from a historical perspective as an expression of different ideals and construction knowledge. From this point of view studies are made to present representative objects which are described considering architecture, concept and construction. The course will also provide an insight to the interior- and furniture history as this is closely linked with architecture and its different styles.
Study visits are made to nearby architectural sites from different epochs
