Aim

To develop an analythical and emotional understanding of the relations between man and created space.

To develop the ability to use different creative skills.

To, in a consious way, be able to use and choose different techniques and methods for analysis and representation of created space.

To be able to communicate analysis, process and creative idea in images, models and lingual description.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to manage introduced concepts and methods as sketching, drawing, collage and modelmaking.
• be able to manage a scenographic perception and scenic operations in different contexts and understand the relation between experience and spatial character on the basis of concepts as scale, form, light, colour, materiality and position.

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to use models and graphical tecniques for spatial analysis.
• show ability in creative work and be able to develop and process ideas by using graphical studies and experimental models
• be able to visualize and communicate thoughts and ideas by models, images and lingual descriptions.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to critically evaluate and analyse space and spatial concepts on the basis of different perspectives.
• have an independent and critical approach towards own observations and ideas and be able to motivate choices of methods and expressions in relation to a context.

Contents

A number of concepts and aspects of spatial analysis will be introduced in this course. Different skills for making images and models will be presented. As examples sketching, drawing, collage, use of colour, models of concept and models of interpretation could be mentioned.

By means of investigation of the space of architecture, film, scene and urban landscape and the way they produce experiences, the understanding of concepts and the possibility of different skills will be developed and deepened. The development of analytical and creative ability

is implemented by different assignments which are supported by lectures, workshops, tutorials and reviews.

Examination details

Grading scale: UG - (U, G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: 80% attendence and approved exercises (approved oral presentation of exercise).

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
