- Provide knowledge about the indoor environment and its effects on human health, comfort and performance.
- Provide knowledge about criteria and principals for design of safe and healthy indoor environments.
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
- know how to identify hazards and problems of the indoor environment with respect to thermal factors, air quality, noise and lighting.
- know and understand the most important causes of such risks and problems.
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to identify risks and problems in the indoor environment
- be able to assess and interpret the problems
Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to quantify and evaluate the severity of the problem on the basis of measurements
- be able to assess relevance, reliability and accuracy of method
- Health effects of indoor environmental factors
- Physical factors: aerosols, thermal factors, noise and lighting
- Models for simulation of exposure conditions
- Design criteria for indoor environments
- Interaction between different factors
- Exercises and applications
- Interaction between building requirements, energy saving and indoor environmental quality
- National and international standards, rules and recommendations
Grading scale: UG - (U,G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: Assignments throughout the duration of the course, project work and examination.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
