Aim

The aim of the course is to deepen the technical understanding at the system level of embedded systems and provide insights into engineering development work.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• analyse and describe embedded systems
• search for and use relevant information
• be able to apply relevant methods and tools for analysing and explaining embedded systems

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• develop and realise an embedded system
• test and debug a design in a systematic fashion
• drive a project forward to a functioning prototype
• be able to communicate in speech and text with specialists with electrical engineering background

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to reflect on possibilities and limitations with embedded systems
• be able to reflect on the experience of engineering development work of embedded systems

Contents

Embedded systems: Microcontrollers, sensors, hardware-close programming.

Analog and digital electronics: electrotechnical basics, components, signal processing.

Methods and tools: Block diagrams, state diagrams, circuit diagrams, troubleshooting.

At the beginning of the course, lectures and laboratories are held to provide theoretical background, practical experience and an introduction to the project. The main part of the course consists of a project, which includes planning, designing, building, testing, documenting and presenting the respective prototype. During the course of the project, resources such as supervisors and equipment are available.

Examination details

Grading scale: UG - (U, G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment:

For Godkänd the student must attend the laboratory exercises and supervisor meetings, and be approved on peer review, final prototype, written and oral presentation.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
