To be introduced to basic theory on perception of 3D space in 2D representation(perspective drawing).
To be introduced to 2D freehand sketching techniques and materials
used in the design profession for the development and illustration
of concepts.
Practice different sketching/ rendering techniques.
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
• Be able to accurately construct basic geometrics forms in
perspective.
• Understand how to construct cast shadows.
• Understand how to use foreshortening techniques and be able to
draw a symmetrical form in perspective.
• Understand how to render different materials and textures
effectively.
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
• Demonstrate ability to apply perspective freehand drawing
techniques using relevant tools and material.
• To some extent demonstrate an ability to to sketch in a
dynamic way.
Judgement and approach

The course consists of a series of lectures and workshops with exercises, demonstrations and group critics to evaluate progress. The course builds on what have been examined previously in the course “Tools of a designer” such as: 1-2-3 point perspective, circles in perspective/ellipses, foreshortening, freehand drawing techniques, establishing a perspective view, communicating shape through rendering etc.
Following topics will be covered:
- Tools and Materials
- Section drawing
- Drawing symmetrical forms
- Material indication, how to render different materials and
textures
- Composition
Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: 80 % attendance required. The assessment is based on the documentation of the individual assignments.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
