Aim

The aim of the course Visual Communication IV is to enhance the students ability to critically reflect upon the relation between humans and our visual and material culture. This is attained mainly by practical training in working with the realization of a redesigned piece of furniture, and with models of spaces and furniture objects. The students will also get the chance to train their ability to take part in theoretical discussions about interior and exterior spaces and furniture, and their part in our society/culture. The purpose of these discussions is to enhance the students knowledge of and ability to critically take part in actual debates on the design of spaces and furniture design. In the course, the students will also get practical training in exhibition design as well as in the making of communicational material such as posters and folders.

Contents

The course includes a fundamental discussion of concepts and traditions that are central to the forming of interior and exterior spaces, as well as their furnishings and furniture, which are reflected in practical work during the course. The course mainly deals with design-oriented aspects and practical exercises, but also with the aspect of how different societal and cultural conceptions of spaces and furniture affects our apprehension of them.

Examination details

Grading scale: UG - (U,G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: The individual student can either Pass or Fail. To achieve the former the student must hand in approved assignments. In addition the student must have at least an eighty percent attendance at workshops, presentations and lectures.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
