Contents

The course is divided into two sections:

The building construction section, which contains fundamental physical building construction and building services. Special importance is attached to energy-efficient measures, damp proofing, damage and indoor climate. The project task concerns the development of a land area where suitable house types and constructions can be suggested, taking into account land quality, energy consumption, material choice, damp proofing and lifecycle analysis.

The environmental science section, which contains important environmental issues relating to the national environmental goals and their significance for different sectors of the community: agriculture and forestry, energy supply, transport system, waste handling. The community and business sectors’ environmental efforts are related to the requirements of ,environmental legislation. The project task is an infrastructure project with extensive land use changes. The analysis includes environmental consequences in both the construction phase and the operation phase.

The course consists of lectures, exercises and smaller projects. In the larger integrated project, which is presented written and orally at seminars, special attention will be given to the structure of the report, including source criticism. The project is carried out in groups of 3-4 students.
