The course shall give an introduction to and basic knowledge in soil mechanics. During the course the student should develope problem solving skills and learn to perform basic analyses in the area of soil mechanics.

Soil description and classification. Soil mechanics. Testing methods used in field and laboratory. Computation of the stress state. Failure criteria, Mohrs circle. Settlements calculation, load bearing capacity for foundation, earth pressures, and land slides risk.

Examination details

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: The course examination comprises one hand-in task, a compulsary practice measurment task and a written exam. The final mark is based on the points earned in the hand-in task and the written exam.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
