Aim

The purpose of the course is to provide the students with knowledge and understanding about actors, regulation and processes that needs to considered in the planning, production and running of a facility. Furthermore the aim of the course is to give basic knowledge about metods and analysis needed in construction project management and knowledge about legislation and practises in Swedish construction law.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• Describe the construction process and its different stages from a client perspective.
• Identify and define involved actors in different stages of the construction process.
• Describe rules and regulations affecting the construction process.
• Describe quality and environmental management in the construction process.
• Ifdentify issues concering health and safety in construction.
• Account for various kinds of construction contracts and delivery solutions.
• Account for issues concering procurement, agreements, general conditions, public procurement laws and regulation.

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• Apply basic methods for planning, management and organization of construction projects.
• From given conditions be able to write and evaluate tendering documents and tender.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• Formulate and evaluate relevant aspects of the construction process from a managerial and legal perspective.

Contents

The course intends to provide a orientation about thoses activities carried out in the construction process and deals with these issues from a client perspective. Deepened analysis is made in the stages of conceptual design, design and production, and in addition issues concerning health and safety and running and maintenance. Furthermore the course covers general legislative conditions and deepening understanding of construction law and construction procurement. The course is based on a number of lectures and excersises.

Examination details

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: Approved written examination.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
