Aim

The course aims to provide expert knowledge about, and experience of, applied project work and prototype production in a group. The course is based on the development and production of a complete car concept for a small formula car, which will include the entire process of design, construction, manufacturing, assembly, marketing, economic analysis, testing and final use. Through the course, the students will need to apply knowledge from previous courses such as mechanics, electronics, mechatronics programming, solid mechanics, construction methods, manufacturing methods, internal combustion engines and electric drive systems. Knowledge from courses in economics, marketing and project management is also essential in the project. Keywords for this course are system thinking, communication and teamwork.

Contents

A practical / experimental or theoretical / numerical / analytical study should be performed within a problem area in the Project Formula Student, that the student wishes to deepen his / her knowledge within. The study is typically followed up by implementation or design, manufacturing and testing of a chosen solution. The course is conducted in project form, where students assume the role of project manager. The course might be a pre-study for a Master of Science thesis or a deeper study related to a regular course. If the student wants and has the opportunity, he/she can volunteer to join the Lund Formula Student in international competition against other universities.

Examination details

Grading scale: UG - (U,G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: Examination takes place at one of the three scheduled occasions per year; first week of December, first week of May or first week of September. During the exam, the student should independently give an oral presentation with the help of a power point or pdf, which should also be submitted to the course coordinators. The following headings must be discussed in both the presentation and the presentation material: • Selected problem area • Problem formulation and motivated relevance to the project • Suggested problem solution based on the attached analysis and synthesis • The impact of the problem solution on the rest of the project • Assumptions, limitations and viability of the problem solution The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
