Aim

The course is designated for students of the Faculty of Engineering, Lund University. The goal is to provide students with additional communication skills in German.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• have a basic knowledge of German grammar
• have a basic knowledge of German pronunciation

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• have basic practical skills in, mainly in the technical field, reading and understanding German texts
• have basic practical oral skills

Contents

The main part consists of text studies. Since only a certain part of the course text can be treated in class, language studies involve an extensive amount of reading texts on your own.

• Part 1 - Reading with vocabulary and grammar
  The students study German texts, mainly in the technical field, with emphasis on vocabulary and basic grammatical structures. The course also provides a systematic review of basic grammatical structures.
• Part 2 - Listening
  Exercises to understand and to reproduce the essence of spoken German.
• Part 3 - Verbal skills
  Exercises in oral and practical pronunciation.

Examination details

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: Written exam.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.

Admission requirements:

• German step 2 or course C language B or 1 year German as B language or 2 years German as C language
