The aim of the course is to give the basic knowledge of solid mechanics with applications to everyday engineering problems.

The following subjects are dealt with in the course: Stress and strain analyses, mainly the state of plain stress. The three simple loadcases; uniaxial traction force, torque and bending moments applied to straight bars. Statically indeterminate beams. Rheological models.
Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: Written examination at the end of the course.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
Assumed prior knowledge: FMA430 Calculus in Several Variables, Basic courses in Engineering Mechanics.
