This course will offer an overview of thermodynamic phenomena and kinetic processes from a materials science perspective, with application towards nanomaterials.

be able to actively argue on thermodynamics and kinetics problems relating to nanomaterials.
Review of basic thermodynamics; thermodynamic equilibrium; phase equilibria and phase diagrams; reactions & reaction kinetics; heat transport; mass transport in solids and fluids; size effects.
Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: Written examination. Compulsory written exercises which can count for bonus points on the final grade, with a passed written exam. It is mandatory to attend the first lecture in order to be admitted to the course.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
Assumed prior knowledge: Basic course in thermodynamics.
