Credits: 5. Grading scale: UG. Optional for: F2, N2, Pi2. Course coordinator: Tomas Brage, Fysiska inst (MN). Prerequisites: At least one year of studies at LTH. Assessment: For pass is required at least 80% attendance on lectures and project meetings, seperately. Pass on hand-ins on the theory part and pass on project with written and oral presentation. Aim
The goal with this course is to give an overview of the roal of the gender perspective in the students subject.

More specific:

To help the student to learn about gender relations in a historical and contempory perspective

To introduce central theories and concecpts in gender science

To help the student to learn about research and investigations on the gender perspective in science and technology

To help the student to develop an independent and critical thinking about structures in the society related to gender

To help the student to be able to reflect on the education in a gender perspective

To help the student to learn written and oral presentations, and to analyse others presentations.

Contents
1) Introduction to Gender Science, 2 p

this part will give a short theoretical introduction to gender science, where different theories within gender research are presented. Gender as a concept and an analytical tool is discussed, together with concepts as "femininity and masculinity". By concidering power structures and social constructions the course is discussing student life, everyday life and working life with special focus on technology and natural science. The concept of gender equality will be discussed and current research in gender theory, technology, science and learning is presented.

2) Project 3 p.

This part of the course consists of a project work,where students in group inspect and examine from a gender perspective a part of their own education. The project is performed during three of four study periods, with follow-up meetings every third week. The project is finished with an oral and written presentation.
