LINEAR ALGEBRAFMA425
Linjär algebra

Credits: 5. Grading scale: TH. Compulsory for: F1. Course coordinator: Studierektor, Lars_Christer.Boiers@math.lth.se, Matematik. Assessment: Written test. Parts: 2. Homepage: http://www.maths.lth.se/matematiklth/vitahyllan/vitahyllan.html.

Aim
The course treats such concepts and methods in geometry and linear algebra which are used in studies of mathematical models in applied subjects. The student should acquire understanding of the concepts as well as skill in their use. The students should also gain insight in the possibilities and limitations of mathematical programming packages such as Matlab, and their use for computation and visualization. Simple applications in mechanics are discussed. An important goal is general understanding of how mathematical theory is developed, in order to facilitate further studies within the School of Technology and in connection with later professional activities.

Contents
Systems of linear equations. Vectors. Scalar and vector products. Matrices. Rank. Linear transformations. Determinants. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
