Aim

The aim of the course is for students to understand how industrial work is organised with respect to the productivity of the production system as well as human needs and conditions. Acquire basic knowledge in order to combine social and technical aspects to improve existing as well as future production systems. Understand the terms and management demands of successful organisational improvements. In addition, the students will gain insights into project leadership conditions such as motivation, values and attitudes, which supports a sustainable and innovative health promotion management.

 

 

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

Define and discuss basic concepts about structure, distribution and organisation of work. Explain the design of work and production systems and the relation to work satisfaction and productivity.

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

Design a set-up for improvements activities in existing as well as future production systems. Visualize and present a specific subject within the field of work organisation and management.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

Suggest and motivate changes in an existing work organisation using basic concepts and principles within the field of work organisation and management.

Contents

The course starts with an historic review and explanations of fundamental theories and explanation models, followed by a written test. The students are organized in teams and summarize relevant work organisation areas in articles and posters and present these in seminars. Cases will be analyzed in cooperation with industrial representatives. Researchers will interact with students and explain trends in work organisation theory and practice. Key words of the course: work organisation, management, participation, changes and improvements, innovation, organisational psychology, work organisation and productivity, stress and workload in working life, sustainable and innovative health promotion management, examples from industry, latest research.

Examination details

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: For a passing grade the student must actively participate in the compulsory portions as well as receive a passing grade on a project as well as on a written test. The student must also produce a written article and a poster.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
