The aim of the course is to introduce the students to their future profession. The main focus areas are different aspects of the design profession. Leading designers, artists, researchers, cultural celebrities etc. appear as guest lecturers, presenting their work and exchanging thoughts and reflections with the students.
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
- Be aware of the various roles the profession of industrial design has to offer.
- Be familiar with the relations of the profession with kindred
fields of work.
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
- Be able to formulate personal views on design in general and industrial design in particular.
Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
- Be able to reflect on thefuture professional role as industrial designer.
- Reflect the cultural mission, the ethical responsibility of the designer and a sustainable development of society.
The course consists mainly of guest lecturespossible field trips and workshops. The lectures are followed by discussions with the students on topics of current issuesin the field of design in general and industrial design in particular, e.g. education, professional work, professional roles, the future etc.
Grading scale: UG - (U,G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: 80 % attendance, group work and a short individual written essay.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
