Aim

The aim of the course Aesthetics is to enhance the students ability to critically reflect upon aesthetic issues, including a reflection of their own design projects. This is mainly attained by practically working with a thematic design project while training to express, in an independent way, lines of argument concerning aesthetic choices. The purpose of the course is to give the students conceptual tools to actively and critically be able to take part in contemporary discussions of aesthetics and our visual culture.

Contents

The course includes a fundamental survey of concepts and traditions in the subject of aesthetics, of central importance to different processes of designing, as well as different discussions of products and their contexts. It introduces the general subject of aesthetics and its history, mainly from various aspects of’ design and practical exercises.

Examination details

Grading scale: UG - (U,G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: The individual student can either Pass or Fail. To achieve the former, the student must submit an approved assignment (that is carried out as group work) and shall in addition to this also have at least an eighty percent attendance at lectures, presentations and exercises.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
