General Information

Main field: Technology.
Compulsory for: L1
Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish

Geology: to give basic knowledge in general and applied geology and hydrogeology to give a comprehension of how geologic preconditions may impact on building and construction questions.

Infrastructure construction and water and wastewater treatment: to give basic knowledge on countryside roads: planning, projecting, building, engineering and maintenance; basic knowledge on small scale water and wastewater constructions and wastewater treatment.

The course has two parts:

Geology: Basic geology, especially different kind of soils in Sweden are presented. Emphasis is on “geological expectation model” and how to draw it up with help of a geological map and a section with layers. This is a material to assess land use concerning building technique, natural resources and ground water.

The project work consists of an engineering geological study focusing on geology and land use. The investigation is conducted in groups of 3-4 students and presented in a brief scientific report. Special emphasis is placed on writing training with feedback because the project work ends with an hour-long group feed- back where both geological and report writing details are dealt with.

Infrastructure Construction: Three smaller projects are presented. Effects on the secondary road net in connection with a highway project; maintenance cost division; design of a smaller wastewater construction. Local preconditions shall be respected.

Examination details

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: Satisfactory written exam in the parts geology and infrastructure construction with water and wastewater treatment. Satisfactory project report including mandatory attendances. Satisfactory project tasks. The grading is based on the results of the exam, in which the parts are valued in proportion to the course.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
