The aim of this course is to introduce the students to the phenomenon of entrepreneurship, including an overview of different theoretical approaches regarding entrepreneurship processes, business plans and business models, frameworks for an analysis of entrepreneurship in relation to societal challenges, emphasize differences of entrepreneurial processes in relation to firm size and age.
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

entrepreneurship in start-ups and established ventures
•understand the role of entrepreneurship in the light of societal

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
•use basic theories and concepts to analyse entrepreneurial
processes
•apply the main lessons of the course in problem-oriented
empirical research,
•communicate their learning outcomes, making presentations, and
leading the discussion.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
• have the ability to independently analyze the
entrepreneurial process in new and established companies,
• have the ability to critically analyze entrepreneurial process
in light of social challenges
• have the ability to critically discuss advantages and
shortcoming of different theoretical schools of entrepreneurship in
relation to concrete cases of entrepreneurship
Have the ability to critically analyze a business plans.
New business processes are taking place within as well as outside established firms. Entrepreneurship is important for new business processes, no matter where they take place. The course will discuss entrepreneurship as a phenomenon in society. Issues being discussed are: Who is the entrepreneur? Differences and similarities between entrepreneurship in new and established ventures. How entrepreneurial processes, in new and established ventures can support each other. The relation between innovation and entrepreneurship. Spatial and international dimensions of the phenomenon. How to make a business plan when starting a new company? How to describe and analyze a business using the business model canvas?
Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: Assessment takes place through a written exam (70% of final grade) and group exercises (30% of final grade). Participation in group exercises is mandatory. If a student cannot attend all group exercises, a supplementary assignment may be required.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.

Assessment: 5: awarded if you have clearly met all the objective, displaying deep knowledge of the base content, original and creative thinking, perhaps going beyond the established practice; 4: awarded when all objectives have been met very well and effectively; 3: awarded when the objectives have been addressed satisfactorily, or where the evidence is strong for some objectives, weaker but acceptable in others; F-FAIL: less than C, work plagiarised, not submitted. Required prior knowledge: MIO012/MIOA01/MIOA12 Managerial Economics and MIO022/MIOF20 Strategic Management. At least three years approved full time education at university level (or a Bachelor degree).
