Aim

• French for engineers has as its objective to give an overview of French society, culture and literature, in addition to a widened knowledge of the French language.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• understand and describe some central phenomena in French culture and French society.
• understand and account for a central literary work.
• be able to use the main features of the French grammar.
• be able to use grammar books and dictionaries.

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to speak French in prepared situations in such a way that it does not present any problems to understand the student.
• be able to write coherent texts in correct French with the help of dictionaries etc.
• be able to explain the main points and some details in simple technical texts and literary texts and be able to understand the main points of spoken standard French within beforehand given areas.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

within some domain be able to give a perspective on some aspects of the French society and compare with Swedish society.

Contents

Module 1

Widened knowledge of spoken and written French, of listening and reading comprehension. The communicative ability is given a particular weight.

Module 2

French culture and society. This module includes a widened knowledge of

 

• French society
• French culture, i.e. architecture, music, art, literature, literature and science history.

Examination details

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: 1 written grammar test (1,5 p), 1 written literature test (1,5 p), 1 written culture and society test (1,5 p). The literature and the culture tests are given on the same occasion. 1oral test (3 p).

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
