The objective of the course is to convey central knowledge and skills within the area of commercial user rights in real property. The course particularly focuses on those who will be working with real estate management, but is also valuable for those working with more traditional land surveying tasks.

For a passing grade the student must

in situations involving the leasing of premises, buildings and equipment, and residential tenancies. The student is also to be able to describe the fundamental contractual mechanisms for agricultural leases.

Be able to recommend to tenants and lessees as well as landlords and owners of real estate how relationships stemming from the different types of use can be managed in order to avoid conflicts and in order for the parties to reach that which they desire through an agreement.
The major focus in the course is on the leasing of premises from the perspectives of both lessors and lessees.
As to different types of user rights, the greatest emphasis is on the leasing of buildings and equipment, but residential tenancies are also addressed, particularly as a contrasting mechanism. The course will also examine the fundamental structure of agricultural leases.
