Aim
The aim of this training course is to provide the students with
a foundation in the Rescue Service's methods, work routines, and
scope of operations. The student will receive an understanding of
how and for what reasons the organisation operates.
With these knowledge skills and preparations as a base, the
student will be able to participate in the daily operations of a
community-based Rescue Service.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to describe the methods and techniques applied to fires
within a building, traffic accidents, spills of hazardous
substances, and life-saving operations on water and working at
great heights.
- be able to handle the equipment required to address these
situations.
- be able to describe and understand the risks that are inherent
in the above situations and to outline the safety-related measures
that are required to address these types of risk.
- be able to explain the role of the Rescue Service and that of
other community agencies at the site of an accident.
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to fulfil the role of Fireman, as an individual and in
a group, in certain simple, uncomplicated rescue situations
(working as smoke diver is excluded).
Contents
- Tactics, organisation and governing laws..
- Vehicles and pumps, hoses and armatures.
- Extinguishing media/effects. (Alternative extinguishing
metdhods are included).
- Fundamental (fire theory, fire development) and smoke
ventilation.
- Breathing apparatus.
- Life-saving on water.
- Traffic accidents, methods and techniques.
- Investigative techniques, cardiac and pulmonary rescue, risk
for infection, ethics.
- Ladders and working at great heights.
- Emotional first-aid and back-up support for colleagues.
- Knowledge of chemicals, decision-making support, equipment for
taking care of hazardous materials.

Grading scale: UG
Assessment: Successful certification includes attendance at compulsory elements.
