Aim
The overall purpose of the course is to provide the students
with an understanding for and skills in how to organize a project
within a logistics context. The course builds on previous courses
within the logistics area and gives the students an opportunity to
deepen as well as practically apply the theoretical knowledge which
has been provided in earlier courses. The students obtain knowledge
and insights into research methodologies and project management,
before taking on a group project where they are trained in
identifying, theorizing, analyzing and providing suggestions for
improvement in a chosen supply chain management area.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
- understand different research methodologies: where they are
applied, their relative advantages and contribution to scientific
knowledge
- have achieved an increased understanding for and skills in
project management from problem to solution
- have deepened their knowledge in supply chain management and
increased their understanding and ability to apply this knowledge
in practice
- have increased the skills in report writing and presentation
techniques
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to search and identify relevant scientific
publications
- be able to use different research methodologies
- be able to use different techniques and models in project
management
- be able to identify, describe, and analyze supply chain flows
and processes
- be able to develop and present improvement proposals
- be able to report and present a supply chain project as a sound
foundation for future project work and master thesis.
Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
- have an ability to evaluate the relative advantages of using
different research methodologies in given settings and select
appropriate research methods
- have an ability to design and manage projects
- have an ability to work independently and think
critically.
Contents
The course consists of three parts. The first part deals with
research methodology and different research methods.
The second part is concerned with project management and different
project methods and tools. The third part is a project that is
carried out in groups of approximately 4 persons. Each group shall
with the aid of the supervisor select and define a project task in
the supply chain domain. The course contains the following
themes:
- Searching for scientific articles
- Research methodology
- Project management
- Indepth theoretical studies in the chosen supply chain
area
- Report writing
- Presentation techniques
Examination details
Grading scale: TH
Assessment: Approved written and oral presentation of the projects.
Admission
Admission requirements:
- MTTF01 Logistics or MTTN01 Logistics in the building process or MTTF25 Fundamentals of logistics and operations management, and at least one of the courses MTT045 International physical distribution, MTTN25 Warehousing and materials handling, MTT115 Industrial purchasing, MTT240 Supply chain management or MTTN30 Process based business development
