Contents

The course highlights the entire area of product realization. The focus is directed towards the production part of the product realization chain. Initially the overall interaction and dependency between product and production is described, were e.g. choice of materials play a central role. While a material can give the desired appearance or function of a product it puts demands on, and in some cases limit the choice of production method. This is also highly dependent on the quality requirements of the product, where the material's behavior under production has a major impact. The choice of material is also affected by requirements or opportunities for recycling the product or material.

Central to the course is the description of the principle of different manufacturing methods and the quality achievable with these methods. The method groups that are treated in depth is plastic forming, machining and casting methods. Methods discussed more briefly are cutting, powder technology, polymer technology, non-mechanical, as well as grinding and polishing methods.

By combining several different manufacturing equipment a manufacturing system is designed. Various types of production layouts and its properties are treated, where the production system's performance is linked to the cost of manufacturing a component concludes with an overall illumination of the material in different products can be recycled into a material life cycle.
