Aim

The student shall acquire an overview of the multi-disciplinary area interaction design with a focus on the usability-oriented design process. The students will, through a mix of theory and practice, acquire skills to design usable interactive products and services.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• define and discuss interaction design using basic concepts.
• explain the principles of a user oriented design process.

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• apply the principles behind a user-oriented design process when designing prototypes of interactive products and services.
• apply basic interaction design techniques when designing prototypes of interactive products and services.
• plan and execute usability evaluation and analysis of interactive products and services.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• suggest and motivate changes of interactive products and services.
• communicate the interactive features of interactive products and services using basic concepts and principles in the field of interaction design.

Contents

Central areas of the course include:

Usability, User experience, Human factors, The design process, User studies, Usability goals, Conceptual design, Interaction techniques, Graphic design, Usability evaluation.

Grading scale: TH
Assessment: Written midtest, written exam and approved project. The final grades is based on the midtest, the exam and the project.
