Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
have knowledge about biotechnological production methods
be able to describe the role of enzymes and microorganisms in a biotechnological process
be able to describe the structure of proteins and its importance for function
be able to describe and explain the way enzymes work
be able to describe the structure of genes and their expression
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
be able to draw simple flow schemes for biotechnological processes
be able to use computers, write reports, do oral presentations and to work in a group
be able to estimate and discuss environmental aspects of a biotechnological process
be able to retrieve information from text books and scientific articles related to a biotechnological process
Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
be able to formulate and discuss questions concerning sustainable development in relation to production of biotechnological products such as food and pharmaceutical as well as other bioproducts
be able to discuss ethical, environmental and societal aspects of a biotechnological process
Protein structure and function with hemoglobin as specific example. Enzyme properties with chymotrypsin as specific example. Gene structure and function and protein synthesis. Metabolism. Future subjects within the study program is described in the form of inspiration lectures.Group discussion around biochemical topics. Basic process knowledge: raw materials, reactors, reactions, products, energy, environment and sustainable biotechnological production. Compulsory site visit.
