Human Condition in the built environment is studied from
different perspectives. The course aims to provide knowledge of
these perspectives as well as various methods for understanding the
human condition in the built environment. Furthermore, the course
aims to provide an orientation to human conditions in different
environments. The course also aims to provide an introduction to
the various scientific approaches that are relevant for
architecture research, thus preparing the students for
research.
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
The student must have a sound knowledge of and be able to discuss architectural issues from a scientific perspective.
The student must have good knowledge of how the results of research in architecture can be applied.
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
The student shall be able to independently assimilate assigned literature and to apply this knowledge in practical design.
The student shall, in accordance with specified requirements through instruction and guidance, be able to write a scientific paper.
The student must, in writing and visual presentations, be able to report their work to an educated public.
Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
The student shall verbally be able to critically discuss their own and others work from a scientific perspective.
Students shall be able to critically examine and discuss various scientific methods used in architecture research.
Structure and content: The course mainly consists of literature studies and empirical work related to a central question of man in relation to the built environment.
Grading scale: UG
Assessment: Basis for rating: 80% attendance at lectures and exercises, approved own work and written assignments and active participation at the final seminar.

The course might be cancelled: If the number of applicants is less than 12.
