Aim

The course gives detailed knowledge in critical speeds and dynamic forces in gears and cam mechanisms.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• have knowledge of how vibrations in machine elements are calculated.

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to analyse different kinds of machine elements with the purpose to reduce vibrations.

Contents

Bending- and torsional critical speeds. Dynamic forces in gears, chain drives, and valve mechanisms.

Examination details

Grading scale: TH
Assessment: Compulsory design assignment. Participation in the examination requires that the design assignment has been approved. This can be approved only during the exercises which are scheduled for the specific assignment. Written examination. The grades 3, 4, and 5 demand 40, 60, and 80% correctness respectively in the examination.

Required prior knowledge: MME035/MMEF05 Transmissions.
