Aim
To give knowledge about urban renewal and the methods necessary
for accomplishment of urban renewal processes.
To understand the difference in comparison to new development,
and the considerations and changes in the existing environment that
urban renewal brings.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to analyse the different types of existing structures
that together define how the city works
- be able to relate the analysis to current methods and
strategies in the area of urban renewal
- be able to interpret and analyse texts about urban renewal and
its methods
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
- formulate criteria for renewal of urban areas
- work out a proposal for renewal of an urban area
- describe the proposal with plans, drawings and in writing
- orally and visually be able to communicate ones project
Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to value the conditions for urban renewal
- show ability to with a comprehensive view take into account
relevant scientific, social and ethical aspects in the
judgement

- general theoretical background about what urban renewal can
consist of
- project work
Examination details
Grading scale: TH
Assessment: Approved exercises, participation in excursions and studytrip and at least 80% presence at seminars, lectures and group critiques.
