Aim

The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the entrepreneurial possibilities as an engineer and to convey an active view on business development as a potential carreer way. Basic aspects on the entrepreneurial process and key concepts within business establishment will be highlighted. By independently developing a business plan a thorough understanding is provided of the basic components in the development of a business idea, as well as the elements that facilitate the process of getting from idea to market. The individual work with the entrepreneurial process is presented and the skill to communicate the business idea is trained during the final conference day.

Contents

Lectures focused on the various subcomponents of the business plan will alternate with homework assignments in which students are working on their own business idea with respect to each lecture. This leads to a series of assignments which constitute the major components for the students to group wise finalise a coherent business plan around their business idea. The business plan is presented to a panel of prospective investors during a conference day.

Guest teachers will provide a broader view of entrepreneurship, knowledge of patents and the patenting process, ways of financing start-ups, and the importance of a professional preparation/presentation of their business idea.

Grading scale: UG
Assessment: Approved assignments in entrepreneurship, participation in mandatory course elements, written examination, a written reported and approved business plan and participation in an oral presentation of the business plan.
