Avancerade laser- och optiksystem
Advanced Optics and Lasers
FAFN10, 7,5 credits, A (Second Cycle)
Valid for: 2013/14
Decided by: Education Board B
Date of Decision: 2013-04-10
General Information
Main field: Photonics.
Elective for: E4, E4-f, F4, F4-f
Language of instruction: The course will be given in English
Aim
The course aims at providing knowledge about basic as well as
advanced techniques for manipulating and controlling laser light
and laser pulses. This involves controlling intensity, frequency
distribution, temporal profiles in order to design advanced optical
systems for specialised tasks in industry as well as research.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to describe the principles for acousto-optic and
electro-optical effects and devices
- be able to describe the basic principles for non-linear light
matter interaction.
- have the ability to carry out quantitative theoretical
calculations of the conversion efficiencies for nonlinear
light-matter interactions.
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to qualitatively and quantitatively analyse advanced
optical systems which are based on electro-optic, acousto-optic or
non-linear optical effects
- be able to design optical systems for specific tasks based on
acousto-optic, electro-optic or non-linear optical effects
- be able to calculate pulse shapes after pulse propagation
- have obtained an improved ability to tackle more complex
thesoretical tasks in optics and laser physics
- be able to find, integrate and utilise information from
appropriate literature.
Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
have an ability to design and evaluate optical methods that can
be used for developing new technology, methods and systems.
