Technical Interfaces
EDI615, 7,5 credits, G2 (First Cycle)
Valid for: 2013/14
Decided by: Education Board A
Date of Decision: 2013-04-15
General Information
Compulsory for: IDA2
Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish
Aim
The aim of the course is to give fundamental knowledge of the
electronic components, that a computer will use to communicate with
the environments ( interfacing). The aim is also to ratify the
professional way for an engineer to work and to ratify the
ability to, from given conditions, analyse and construct a system
for measurement and steering.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to explain the function of basic electronic components,
that is used in interfacing techniques
- be able to explain the principles for how to adapt
non-electrical quantities to a computer.
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to dimension and construct simple electronic circuits
of the computers interface
- be able to from given conditions, construct a system for
measurement and steering
- be able to analyse an electro-mechanical system and then
dimension a convenient bus-system, including sensors and
controlers
- be able to show a solution of a interface problem in a
technical report
- be able to from given conditions understand and evaluate the
information given in manuals and technical documention of different
circuits, that are used in interfacing techniques.
Contents
- Fundamental electronic components: transistor, diode, tyristor,
diac, triac, relay, opt-components, opamp, ADC, DAC
- Amplifiers: small signal amplifiers and power amplifiers
- Power supply and noise suppressor
- Field bus: CAN-bus and Profi-bus, Opto-couplers
- Sensors: Mecanical sensors, termo sensors,. pressuare sensors,
strain sensors, akustic sensors, optical sensors, flow sensors
Examination details
Grading scale: UG
Assessment: Continues examination through tests before laboratory work, passed laboratory reports and one final passed report of an interface problem.
