Aim

The course aims to train the student's ability to design at a project level involving greater difficulty and complexity of the design tasks, as well as of the underlying theory. Thus, the aim is to combine, through concrete design tasks (like for example architectural competitions), what has been learned at a more purely academic level with the commercial realities with which the student will be confronted after completing his or her studies.

Contents

In the course the students design projects in clearly defined contexts like an architectural competition, or the like. This provides the opportunity of a clearly delimited architectural task in which, under the supervision of teachers likewise involved in the course, the student has the opportunity to carry out design experiments of advanced character with the aim of developing her/his knowledge of architectural design. During the course, questions of realisation, design process, communication and contemporary architecture are discussed.

The basic teaching approach adopted here involves a series of workshops, lectures and seminars (all relating to the specific tasks). The focus of the course will be on ideas and questions of contemporary international debate. A study tour with the aim of expanding the student’s knowledge on contemporary architecture and urbanism will be a part of the course.
