Aim

The aim of this course is to provide the students with a deep knowledge of planning, design, production and maintenance of infrastructure. The students will also be given an understanding of the cooperation between different disciplines in planning, design, maintenance of infrastructure such as bridges, highways and tunnels. The need of a life cycle perspective is discussed. The course is suitable for students with different competence within the field of infrastructure.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• Identify and understand the relatioship between different parts of an infrastructure project
• Understand and describe relationship between planning, design, production, construction management and maintenance of construction projects
• Can differences between national and business economy
• Analyse different Contractor forms, advantages and disadvantages

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• Apply planning and design methods
• Work out time plans for large projects
• Evaluate different alternative solutions
• Conduct cost calculations
• Evaluate a project based on economic analyses

Examination details

Grading scale: TH
Assessment: Oral and written presentation of project work. Compulsory presence at field trip and final presentation.

Admission

Admission requirements:

• VVBF20 Road Construction or VVBF25 Road Construction and Production Planning
• VGMF10 Geodesy or VGTF05 Soil Mechanics

Required prior knowledge: VTVF10 Highway and railway design; VVBN05 Highway maintenance; VVBN10 Pavement design; VBEN15 Construction management and VGTF01 Foundation engineering.
