Aim

The aim of the course is that the students will acquire an understanding for how various variables affect the effects of traffic within the areas of Accessibility, Level of service, Safety and Environment. The course should induce understanding for the complexity in that what is good for one basic aspect don’t necessarily need to be good for the other aspects, and that there is often need for a compromise between them. After fulfilling the course the students should have a good theoretical basis for further studies traffic engineering and planning

Contents

The course consists of lectures, literature studies, PBL, seminars and assignments.

The course is divided into themes related to the four basic aspects of traffic. Within each theme there will be lectures and literature studies that are summed up in a short report. The review of the reports will partly be carried out by way of peer review, in addition to writing own reports each student is tasked with review other students’ reports, and partly by teacher review of selected reports.

Assessment: For a passing grade: passing grade on exam and approved assignments. The grade is awarded on the basis of the grade on the exam.

Required prior knowledge: VTTF01 Traffic Engineering or Transports and Society and FMS032 Mathematical Statistics, Basic Course.
